From politics (moderates who lean to the right) to Pogo (drools during poker stare) to rants (Whatcha expect from savvy, sassy sexagenarians?) to raves (Have you had your kudo today?) -- we never take ourselves too seriously.
We do, however, reserve the right to slaughter an occasional sacred cow. And in case we fail to mention it -- we will never forget....
I have utmost respect for Mitt Romney. IMO, he will always be the consummate candidate for the Presidency of the United States.
The suspension of his candidacy must have come after serious deliberation -- not only by his staff and advisors -- but especially by his family.
I respect Mitt's decision. His campaign has been both inspiring and painful. I don't know how his family has withstood the unrelenting attacks, however, on his qualities, his passion, his intensity, his competencies and especially his religion.
MSM will miss Mitt. Whom else will they badger, brand, second guess and criticize? Since Obama and Hillary are, in reality, the god-children of the liberal media, MSM will now turn its critical eye on the remaining GOP hopefuls.
I will likely not participate in a vote for POTUS this year.
Not only has the MSM favored Juan McInsane as the Republican nominee, but voters have consistently underestimated the control of GOP power-brokers who have orchestrated state primaries and tempered the party's response to Mitt Romney.
I will watch from a distance as the GOP heir apparent self-destructs with the able assistance of Bill and Hillary Clinton.
And in the name of what have these power-brokers enjoined the media to enable the destruction of the Republican party?
First in the name of bigotry: Regretfully, the bile of prejudice was most evident in the very existence of another Arkansas shamster -- this time waving the banner of Christianity.
Secondly in the name of political loyalty: In by-passing a rising and competent candidate for one who has "stood in line," the GOP leadership has chosen a candidate who, most recently, authored an amnesty bill which 70% of Americans opposed.
Face it: he Republican party is in deep doo-doo. If the current pretender to the crown has not convinced the Republican party of his credentials as a conservative over a 30+ year political career, he won't be able to do it in the next few months.
Thanks, Mitt. And thank you, Romney family for sharing a man who is worthy to serve as our President.

No2Mccain February 8, 2008 12:39 PM PST Ditto. I can't think of one good reason Mitt would even want to run in 2012.
Christopher February 8, 2008 05:24 PM PST It always stinks when your candidate loses. In 2006 we had a very likable guy very much like Romney run for Governor in Michigan. In the end he lost, and no matter how silly it sounds a part of your heart breaks. I'm a firm believer in voting and even when the choices are hideous it is your duty. But I'll try to get your vote another time. Til' then only the best.
Christopher February 8, 2008 05:32 PM PST Just wanted to add, I do believe anti-religion bigotry hurt Romney particularly in the South, where he could have made a comeback. I attacked Romney on my site far too often but I always stood up for his faith.
Gull February 8, 2008 08:17 PM PST Thanks for coming by again, Christopher.
I'm still in my "maverick nominee, meet maverick voter" mode, however.
I can't see John McCain as POTUS in any scenario. Gonna be patient, but the his effort to connect isn't working, imo.
Movinon203 February 9, 2008 07:41 AM PST Well, call me a cynic, but the man doesn't run th office, it is the power brokers that do, they manipulate all the politicians. The fact that they are rewarding a 'stand in line guy' tells you what they care about the office, (any office). It's about who can be controlled and which party has the most chips to call in for the final decision. Somehow I think we are all under the delusion that we select the candidates and even the winners, the more I watch and listen the less I believe that we even play a walk on role.
Hang in there, and try not to give up. That is when they win.

Ron Simpson February 15, 2008 04:31 PM PST I about cried when Romney dropped out. I am boing to screen print 2012 on my Romney for Presidned t-shirt. McCainus is not the nominee I wanted, but I want Empress Hillary or Child of Lenin, Obama even less. Maybe McCain will try to mend fences with the conservatives by picking Mitt as VP. Who knows?
I hope this election wakes up the voters to the problems in the election progress. We need to rid ourselves of the superdelegates/unelected delegates. We need to remove the party apparatus from the primary process. But it is something that MUST start at the state level.
